The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) is a membership organization representing the specialty practice of psychiatric-mental health nursing. APNA fosters excellence in the domains of education, policy, practice, research, and organizational development. APNA influences these domains through core values of leadership, open communication, development, alliance, advocacy, diversity, stewardship, and professional ethics. These values are fundamental to APNA’s vision, mission, goals and strategic plan. APNA is committed to facilitating and supporting opportunities for dynamic interaction and participation among the membership. We provide forums for collaborative relationships, partnerships, and networks with mental health consumers and other healthcare professional groups.

VISION
APNA is the premier voice of psychiatric- mental health nurses.

MISSION
The American Psychiatric Nurses Association provides leadership to promote psychiatric-mental health nursing, to improve mental health care for culturally diverse individuals, families, groups and communities and shape health policy for the delivery of mental health services.

PRINCIPLES
APNA is committed to:

Promoting dynamic, value driven leadership

Promoting quality mental health nursing care

Developing and maintaining diversity within the Association.

Maintaining integrity and ethical practice of psychiatric-mental health nursing.

Facilitating and supporting multiple opportunities to foster dynamic interaction and participation among the membership.

Providing a variety of communications vehicles, to assist members in their growth and development as leaders and facilitate internal and external communications for the association.

Providing learning and growth inherent in relationships, partnerships, and networks with advocacy, consumer and other professional groups.

Maintaining careful allocation and prudent stewardship of the Association’s resources.
